Ahadu Abaineh

Experimental tree house

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

December 2002
Ahadu Abaineh is concerned to alleviate the housing crisis endemic to all third world cities and, at the same time, to encourage the growth of forests, which are increasingly being destroyed. All members of the jury were delighted by the notion of making a building out of living trees, and by the idea that it may be possible to make replicable houses with appropriate technology that could last for a very long time and be in harmony with nature.
